@Skepta supported by the streets .. Slated by NME !! READ THIS !!

by on Jan.31, 2011, under FEATURED

You know Skepta’s music and so do i. You’ve heard stuff from him bfore . First in his Genre to work with the likes of Sean Diddy Coombes. He can release a track and 50 other MCs will jump on the beat which is often produced ..By Skepta. Skeppy , is Grime to a degree. His name is synonymous with the genre as Wiley’s  is. In the same breath Tinchy’s, who started out in Grime, no longer is. I don’t know about you but they don’t make the same type of music as far as i can tell .

The closest I’ve heard to pop from Skepta is the collaboration with (the stunning) Priya Kalidas  and maybe the recent joint effort with N-Dubz. Lyrically they are still sound albeit more accessible/acceptible to  and by the mainstream masses. Mike Lowery is out and out gritty Grime ( and my favourite track off the set).

This literary burial in print of  “Doin It Again”  reminds me of when rapper Pyrelli appeared on the Orange unsigned music competition when Alex James said that he “didn’t understand all that scratchin, rap doesn’t have that anymore” . That pissed me off no bcasue I am biased toward urban music. I’m not. But give it a fair shake and have judges and critics that know what it is they are talking about.  Not just shit on it to look cool

NME.com had this to say

One-time grime talent turned straight-up X Factor standard pop star Skepta can barely be bothered anymore, it seems. ‘Doin’ It Again’ features a lazy and cynical production job – witness Auto-Tune slathered over the cracks like Artex on the walls of a house built too close to a cliff edge.

Beyond the sonics, the lyrics are embarrassingly piss-poor as well. “The game is like a box of Roses/Because when they’re done with the chocolate the rapper gets thrown away”, he spits in a rare moment of insight.

This is the sound of grime destroying itself – not helped by the fact that in the US, Odd Future are making this shit feel , ooh, about 30 years old.

John Doran

Now if you know about Odd future ( go look them up on Youtube if you don’t >>(OFWGKTA)<<)..On what planet are those 2 a comparison . Skepta - OFWGKTA?  This overcool frigwit needs to understand Grime is NOT HIPHOP.

IF YOU HAVE SKEPTA’S ALBUM TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK OF IT IN THE COMMENTS SECTION
